Recently, Omdia, an international authoritative research institute, released the Fiber and Copper Access Equipment Units 4Q20 Share report. According to the report, Huawei’s home optical network terminals (ONTs) continued to lead the world with a market share of 33% in the fourth quarter of 2020. In addition, Huawei’s annual market share in 2020 reached 34%, ranking No. 1 in the world. Up to now, Huawei has delivered nearly 500 million ONTs and fixed access terminals worldwide.

Adhering to the customer-centric philosophy, Huawei has been continuously innovating in products, solutions, and customer experience. With the development of optical networks and broadband services, home networks are quickly upgraded to all-optical networks. Home gateway ONTs need to integrate high-quality Wi-Fi capabilities and evolve to Wi-Fi 6. In May 2020, Huawei and its operator partners jointly launched the industry’s first Fiber to the Room (FTTR) all-optical networking solution. Based on Huawei’s HomePON solution, the FTTR solution deploys fibers to each room and uses Huawei’s OptiXstar Wi-Fi 6 ONTs to build gigabit, green, simplified, and future-oriented high-quality home networks for users. Currently, 13 provincial and municipal operators in China have released commercial package products based on Huawei’s HomePON solution to build FTTR home networks with the premium gigabit experience. In addition, Huawei will enhance cooperation with partners in the real estate, decoration, and content industries to create the more comfortable home digital life experience for users.

In 2020, Huawei also launched the industry’s first embedded smart ONT which can intelligently identify multiple types of VIP services such as online courses, video conferences, and online VOD. By giving higher priorities to such services, the ONT reduces Wi-Fi latency and packet loss rate, and achieves smooth experience in such services without frame freezing. The product has been put into large-scale commercial use by operators in more than 10 countries. To realize fiber coverage and speed acceleration for rural areas, Huawei OptiXstar smart ONTs provide stable Wi-Fi networks to ensure user experience in scenarios such as video backhaul, live broadcast, online education, and e-commerce.

In the past year, Huawei’s home network products and solutions have been recognized by the industry. The FTTR all-optical networking solution based on Huawei HomePON won multiple industry awards, such as “Innovation Award at the 2020 World VR Conference”, “China Real Estate Smart Home Award”, and “Excellent ICT Solution Award in 2020”. Huawei’s OptiXstar series smart ONTs also won many industry awards, such as the Best Network Intelligence Award in BBWF 2020, and International Awards for Technical Innovation in 2021 Lightwave Innovation Reviews presented by Lightwave.

As a world-leading ultra-broadband solutions provider, Huawei has taken the lead in deploying gigabit and Wi-Fi 6 ONTs on operator networks in China, Asia Pacific, Middle East, Latin America and Europe, accelerating the construction of gigabit optical networks. In addition, Huawei cooperates with industry partners in the supply chain to promote innovations in the home network industry and provide ultimate service experience for users in online education, online office, Cloud VR, HD live broadcast, and eSports services, helping operators transform from bandwidth monetization to experience monetization, and achieve continuous success in the home broadband business.
