Gujarat: DGVCL targets 25MW rooftop solar power generation by March
At present, there are about 1,400 rooftop solar installed in Bharuch, Surat, Valsad and Navsari districts falling under the jurisdiction of the DGVCL. The per day solar energy generation is pegged at 5MW.
Surat: The Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL) has set the target of generating 25 mega watt (MW) of rooftop solar power in south Gujarat region by March 2020.
Official sources said that about 16,700 applications have been received from consumers, mainly from the residential areas, under the solar rooftop scheme of the state government since September 2016. About 9,700 have already submitted the application with their initial payments for setting up of the rooftop solar plants at their facilities.
At present, there are about 1,400 rooftop solar installed in Bharuch, Surat, Valsad and Navsari districts falling under the jurisdiction of the DGVCL. The per day solar energy generation is pegged at 5MW.
On July 2, 2019, the state government in its budget announced to launch a new scheme for solar rooftop. This scheme will directly benefit more than 2 lakh families, who will adopt solar in the financial year 2019-20.
T P Chaudhary, additional chief engineer of DGVCL said, “About 8,600 solar rooftops have been installed in the region and we are expecting the solar power generation of about 25MW per day starting from March 2020.”
According to Chaudhary, majority of the rooftop solar applications have been received from the residential consumers from the areas including Rander, Jehangirpura, Saroli, Ramnagar, Puna areas in Surat, Bharuch district, Navsari and Valsad.
Chaudhary added, “The beneficiaries are given subsidy of 40per cent under the State Government’s scheme for solar rooftop for up to 3 kilowatts system and subsidy of 20per cent for a system of 3KW to 10 KW”
