Residential systems could be targets for theft. The solar PV modules themselves are the prime target, followed by copper, for example in the cables. Various theft protection measures are available on the market.
A simple measure is to use custom-locking fasteners instead of standard bolts on the mounting rails. Sensor-based alarm system solutions are also an option. As an example, a wire can be run through the modules, and if it gets cut, the alarm will be triggered.
GPS technology can be fitted discreetly inside the junction box of the solar module to enable the system owner to track the modules in case of theft.
