Preparing the technical basis for reservoir solar
GIZ-engaged Fichtner–Firstgreen consortium work on reservoir screening and DPR preparation, with Bhavani Sagar identified as a pilot.
The challenge
Floating solar development needs early site screening followed by reservoir investigations and a sound technical basis for detailed project reports.
Firstgreen’s contribution
GIZ engaged the Fichtner–Firstgreen consortium, led by Fichtner Consulting Engineers (India), to prepare DPRs for floating solar projects on reservoirs identified by TNGECL.
Our approach
The consortium completed an inception report based on desk studies and preliminary screening. Six lakes were shortlisted for further assessment, with Bhavani Sagar identified as the pilot for the next phase.
Project scope and status
The work is in project preparation. Field investigations and bathymetric survey activities form the next stage, subject to site authorisation.
