Madhya Pradesh: Floating solar projects on Narmada takes off.

Bhopal: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday said Madhya Pradesh will have 20,000 MW renewable energy capacity in five years. A big step in this was taken during the day when the government signed a contract for the first phase of the 600 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project on Narmada – said to be the biggest of its kind in the world.

In the first phase, 278 MW- capacity fracture will be set up for the Omkareshwar project, CM Chouhan said at the event. The contract was signed and exchange with NHDC Limited, AMP Energy, and SJVN Limited.

Talking about the benefits of a floating solar plant, the CM said, “There is no need for land for this project, so no one is displaced. It is scientifically proven that power generation in a water-based solar project is higher than land-based ones”.

The CM said, “Due to installation of solar panels on the surface, less water will be evaporated, which will lead to 60-70% water being saved. In addition, algal growth on surface water reduce.
