Chandigarh Renewal Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) has blacklisted a firm for using poor quality material in solar panels installed at various residential houses.

Sources said the CREST had taken the action after an inquiry proved that the material used in the panel was not up to the mark. Some of the residents also approached the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for taking the action against the firm.

Dr Abdul Qayum, Additional Director-cum-ACEO, CREST, confirmed the action against the firm, M/s Live Braille Wearable Solution. He said the firm was penalised after the charges were found true during investigation.

In the order issued by the CREST, it has been said that the firm was blacklisted after the department received a number of complaints regarding installation of low-quality modules and use of substandard material.

The CREST had issued a notice to the firm on June 8, 2019 to replace the Module Mounting Structure and Zig-Zag type SPV modules installed at various houses in Chandigarh.

The firm informed that the Zig-Zag type SPV modules have been replaced without any additional cost. The department conducted the site survey and it was observed that the new SPV modules installed by firms are not approved by the Ministry.

The order says that the firm was asked to submit the test certificate for the SPV modules but no certificate has been submitted by the firm till date.

Qayum said if the empanelled agency fails to follow the terms and the conditions of DINT, the CREST has the right to take action against the firm which includes blacklisting and forfeiture of earnest money deposit or performance bank guarantee. The CREST has also forfeited the bank guarantee of Rs 1.50 lakh.
