Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) on Thursday issued consent letters to 150 applicants who want to install small rooftop solar plants.

They will get 70 per cent subsidy  to achieve the target of tapping 10 MW power in the state by 2020 under the Centre’s  National Solar Mission.

Power Minister Anil Sharma gave the letters to the applicants on the concluding day of the two-day solar energy mela organised by the  Himurja on Thursday.

The Power Minister said the state government had targeted to tap 10 MW of solar energy from the rooftop solar plants by 2020.

“The Centre is providing 70 per cent subsidy,  while the state is giving 4,000 per kilowatt subsidy on this scheme. One kW of solar plant, which is enough for a household, will cost Rs 12,000,” the Power Minister said.

MD, HPSEBL, JP Kalta said rooftops solar plants were connected with the HPSEBL grid for billing and surplus power would be bought by them.

The company would install the meter and other equipment for the solar plants, he said.

Senior project officer, Himurja,  Ajay  Sood  said  the response to the scheme was good.

Sood said the applicant needed a consent letter from the board to know the power load.

The Centre had upscaled the capacity target from 20,000 MW to 1,75,000 MW (175 gigawatts) to be achieved by 2022.

Out of this, 40 GW was planned through grid-connected rooftop solar mode, said an official.
