Community centres to have solar plants
CHANDIGARH: Acting on a proposal of the Chandigarh Renewable Energy Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST), the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has decided to install solar power plants on the rooftop of all community centres and waterworks in the city.
Recently, Santosh Kumar, Director, Science and Technology Department, and CEO, CREST, had written to the MC to install these plants on all buildings of the civic body. Following this, a decision was taken in this regard recently.
At present, there are around 40 community centres under the MC. Besides, there are five waterworks in Chandigarh, including the main waterworks in Sector 39.
Recently, Chandigarh was ranked first among solar cities in the country in terms of solar power. Chandigarh has 7.7 MW of solar energy whereas second-ranked Gandhinagar has 7.2 MW.
