Delhi to use land of Rajghat thermal power plant for solar park
Delhi will soon be closing down Rajghat thermal power plant and use the land to develop a solar park. This was recently announced by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia at a meeting of the Delhi Cabinet. The power production at coal-based power plant is stopped since 2015 due to pollution concerns.
“It (power plant) will be officially shut down and the 45 acre land on which it is located will be used to develop a solar park that will produce 5,000 KW of electricity,” said Sisodia.
The Rajghat thermal power plant with a power generation capacity of 135 MW is located at Yamuna bank. It was commissioned in 1989. However, according to the sources, solar plant of 5,000 KW capacity would be installed in the land.
