Ol Tukai 100 KW/200 kWh ESS with solar minigrid in Kenya

Ol Tukai Lodge is a facility located in the Amboseli National Park in Kenya. Due to its’ location, there is no grid available hence the sole source of power is diesel generators. This has proven to be expensive and polluting. The management of the facility has sought a renewable energy solution that will reduce both their costs and their carbon footprint. The facility has an annual energy consumption of around 990,000 kWh.

In order to reduce their energy consumption, Solar Consultants Firstgreen Ltd has proposed to design, install, and commission either a 100kWp PV system with 200kwh battery, or a 200kWp PV system with 200kWh Battery.

The system configuration is with 20ft Container BESS driven by Sinexcel in the Ol tukai resort. The system is to replace the existing Diesel Gen-set and to reduce the diesel consumption. The battery/ESS is charged by by external PV array of 100 kWp capacity. In the first phase the system configuration is of 100 KW/200 kWh ESS with Li Fepo batteries. The system is modular in design and will be upgraded to 500 kWh.
