Opportunities in Li Ion Battery manufacturing.. Price trends..

Published by firstgreen on

The Li Ion batteries have become integral part of our day to day applications ranging from mobile phones to the car batteries. majority of our Li Ion battery requirements are emerging from automobile segment. Typically India produce about 10.4 Mn two wheelers which are non EV and only about 7.5 Million two wheelers are of EV type. This puts significant requirement of developing the domestic battery manufacturing capacity.

Presently most of the battery manufacturers in India are engaged in battery pack assembly, however there is a need to get in to the deeper side of this supply chain..The companies should get in to the cell anode, battery management systems, cell cathode, battery thermal management aspects of this supply chain. in Li ion manufacturing.

As Government of India has targets of Net zero by 2070, and pushing the e mobility aggressively, as per Niti Aayog report, the Indian requirement of the Li Ion batteries is of the order of 800 GWh/y by 2030.. This is significant capacity comparing the currently global capacity of the order of 273 GWh/y.

The price falls are expected to reach to the tune of $60/kWh by 2030, which is currently over $200/kWh.. There is a need. to explore some other battery chemistry also.. Fuel cells and Hydrogen are also likely take shape in near future to become mainstream technologies.
