In rural areas where grid access is often unreliable, solar PV acts as a transformative technology for agriculture. It decouples farm productivity from the erratic availability of diesel or grid electricity.

Solar Water Pumps are the most impactful application. Ranging from 1 to 10 kW, these systems use Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) to run standard AC pumps directly from solar panels. No batteries are needed; the water tank acts as the “storage.”

Beyond pumping, solar is modernizing the post-harvest supply chain:
• Solar Cold Storage: Decentralized cold rooms powered by PV help farmers store perishables near the farm gate, reducing spoilage.
• Pack-houses: Small PV arrays power sorting and grading machines.
• Greenhouse Automation: Powering ventilation and drying systems.

These applications improve rural economic resilience by reducing input costs (diesel) and enabling farmers to sell higher-value produce.
