FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT 100kW COMMERCIAL ROOFTOP PV SYSTEM

Published by firstgreen on

Question 1: How much does a 100kW commercial solar PV system cost?

Answer: A 100kW rooftop system mainly comprised of different components made up of solar PV panels, solar inverter, ACDB, DCDB and many more. These can cost anywhere between INR 40,00,000 to INR 50,00,000 and will depend on the brands you select for your solar system.

Question 2: How much roof area is required for 100 kW rooftop system?

Answer: Only solar panels are mounted on roof. The other components such as ACDB, DCDB, inverters etc. are installed on another suitable place. So, for calculating the area of roof required for panels, we need to know the area and size of one panel and quantity of panels required. For 100 kW system, about 300 to 350 panels are required. The size of one panel is about 1mX2 m and area is nearly 2 sq. m. Hence, the required roof area will be 6-8 sq. m/kW.

Question 3: How much power does a 100 kW commercial solar PV system generate?

Answer: Generally, the 100 kW system generates 400-450 units/day. Now, the saving and consumption will depend the type of building on which the plant is installed.

Question 4: How much money saving is there in a 100 kW commercial solar PV system?

Answer: Assuming that the electricity rate is 6 Rs/unit in an area. On an average, one saves 9,000 Rs/kW on generation of 1500 units/year. Therefore, through 100 kW system, the saving will be approx. Rs 9-10 lac/annum on an investment of Rs 40 lac.

Question 5: What’s the average payback period of a 100kW commercial solar PV system?

Answer: If the saving is Rs 9-10 lac/year and the investment is Rs 40 lac, then the payback period will be 4-5 years depending upon location of the project and actual energy generated by the system.

Question 6: What are the types of solar panels that are suitable for rooftop system?

Answer: Usually, there are 3 types of technologies used for solar panels:

  • Poly-crystalline
  • Mono-crystalline
  • Thin-film

Especially, poly-crystalline and mono-crystalline technologies are used because their efficiency is high and they consume less roof area. Advisable to use solar PV system which can produce electricity to meet your requirement.

Still more, mono-crystalline is used due to bifacial panels. Each panel can generate around 450-500 W.
