Green Hydrogen strategy of various countries

Published by firstgreen on

As the world moves towards a decarbonized economy, green hydrogen is emerging as a key player in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Green hydrogen is produced by splitting water molecules using renewable energy sources such as wind, solar or hydro, which makes it a clean and sustainable energy source. Many countries have recognized the potential of green hydrogen and are investing in its production and usage. In this article, we will take a closer look at the green hydrogen strategies of various countries, including the European Union, Germany, France, Netherlands, Hungary, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom, Norway, Japan, South Korea, United States, Canada, Australia, Chile, China, and Russia.

European Union The European Union has set a target of producing 1 million tons of renewable hydrogen by 2024 and 10 million tons by 2030. The EU’s hydrogen strategy is based on the development of a European-wide hydrogen market, supported by cross-border infrastructure, regulations and standards. The EU will focus on the production and use of green hydrogen in the industrial sector, as well as transport and energy.

Germany Germany is one of the leading countries in the production and use of hydrogen. The country has set a target of producing 5 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030, which will produce 14 TWh of green hydrogen per year. Germany will focus on using green hydrogen in the transport and energy sectors, as well as in the chemical industry.

France France has set a target of producing 6.5 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030, which will produce 3.5 million tons of green hydrogen per year. France will focus on using green hydrogen in the transport and industry sectors.

Netherlands The Netherlands has set a target of producing 500 MW of electrolysis capacity by 2025 and 3-4 GW by 2030. The country will focus on using green hydrogen in the chemical industry and in heavy transport.

Hungary Hungary has set a target of producing 160 ktpa of green hydrogen by 2030. The country will focus on using green hydrogen in the transport and industry sectors.

Portugal Portugal has set a target of producing 150 ktpa of green hydrogen. The country will focus on using green hydrogen in the transport sector and in the production of fertilizers.

Spain Spain has set a target of producing 4 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030 and 10 GW by 2040. The country will focus on using green hydrogen in the transport and industry sectors, as well as in the production of fertilizers and steel.

United Kingdom The UK has set a target of producing 5 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030, which will produce 1.65 million tons of green hydrogen per year. The UK will focus on using green hydrogen in the transport and industry sectors, as well as in the production of steel.

Norway Norway has set a target of producing 2-3.5 million tons of green hydrogen per year by 2030. The country will focus on using green hydrogen in the transport and industry sectors, as well as in the production of fertilizers and steel.

Japan Japan has set a target of producing 1.5 million tons of green hydrogen per year by 2030. The country will focus on using green hydrogen in the transport sector and in the production of steel.

South Korea South Korea has set a target of producing 5 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030, which will produce 6.2 million tons of green hydrogen per year. The country will focus on using green hydrogen in the transport and industry sectors.

United States The US has set a target of producing 3 million tons of green hydrogen per year by 2030 and
