The Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) is planning to set up a solar power generation unit at its proposed hydel-power generation site at Dhaula Sidh on the Beas river.

As per sources, the SJVNL had started research and development activity to analyse the potential of the solar power generation at the Dhaula Sidh Power Project.

Sources said the location for the installation of solar panels had been identified near Bullai village on the bank of the Beas, close to Karot, as the area was sunny and solar panels would have maximum sunlight to produce electricity.

The SJVNL will install a unit to generate 20 kv electricity. The photovoltaic panels for the unit are being acquired from the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). The project will cost around Rs 75 lakh and can be installed in less than a year’s time. The power generated from the unit can be supplied for the public welfare or the remote villages of the district.
