Solar PV Project Lifecycle. Highlighting the first step: Site Assessment and Feasibility.

A solar project doesn’t start with installation; it starts with a clipboard and a compass. The Site Assessment phase is the foundation of the entire PV Project Lifecycle.

Before a single module is ordered, technicians must evaluate the physical and electrical characteristics of the site. Key activities include:
• Shadow Analysis: Measuring azimuth and tilt, and identifying shade-causing objects like trees or parapet walls.
• Structural Verification: Can the roof hold the weight (typically 12-15 kg/m²) of the solar plant?
• Electrical Check: Identifying the interconnection point and cable routing paths.

For a small 10 kW rooftop, this might take 1-2 days. For a 5 MW ground-mount plant, it involves weeks of geotechnical sampling and topographic surveys. This phase produces the “Go/No-Go” decision. A mistake here—like missing a winter shadow from a nearby building—can cripple the system’s performance forever.
